Announcing RPT Chair Candidate Forum & Straw Poll – This Saturday, February 7

February 1, 2015

RPT Chair Straw Poll Invitation

Republican Party of Texas State Chairman Steve Munisteri recently informed the State Republican Executive Committee that he will resign as State Chairman effective Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 p.m.

At the last meeting of the SREC, the Chairman proposed a bylaw amendment which would provide a seamless transition from the current Chair to a new Chair without the necessity of the Vice Chair taking over temporarily. The amendment allowed an outgoing Chair to set a future day for resignation on which date the election for a new Chair could be held. This bylaw requires the outgoing Chair to give at least 30 days written and irrevocable notice of a date and time certain.

As a result of this new bylaw, Chairman Munisteri will chair the business portion of the first quarterly meeting of the SREC, scheduled for March 7th in Austin. Other than the election of a new Chair, all business is expected to be concluded by 1:00 p.m. At that time, an election for a new State Chair will be held. Vice Chair Amy Clark will preside over the election which will include as many rounds of voting as necessary until one candidate receives over 50% of the votes of the SREC. Including the Vice Chair, there will be 63 voting members of the SREC, which means that 32 votes will constitute a majority.

Several of our local SREC members have declared that they will guided by the vote at this and other Straw Poll events being held throughout Texas.  Come and make your voices heard.

There are currently four announced candidates running for Chairman:

  • Dr. Robin Armstrong, Republican National Committeeman
  • Wade Emmert, Dallas County GOP Chair
  • Tom Mechler, Treasurer of the Republican Party of Texas
  • Jared Woodfill, former Harris County GOP Chair
